Homemade Playdoh

Today was an eventful day with my nieces, I decided to take them to the store with me to get ingredients needed to make the playdoh. Which didn't seem to hard because you don't need much. Well I didn't know what cream of tarter was and neither did anyone in the store so it led us on a wild goose chase through the store until I called my boyfriend to get him to ask his mom, and he knew what it was. Mind you my boyfriend doesn't ever cook so I was surprised he knew. Needless to say if you don't know what cream of tarter is it's a spice and it's located with the other spices.

It looks like this:

All you need to make homemade playdoh is:
  • 1 C. of flour
  • 1 C. of water
  • 1/4 C. salt
  • 1 TBSP of vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp of cream of tarter
  • food coloring (I've read some people use kool-aid packets)
  • Sparkles (if you want to add a little something extra for the kids)
  • Small pot
  • Mixing spoon

I let the oldest two dump their measured ingredients in the pot for their playdoh

It doesn't matter how you pour in your ingredients we poured all our dry ones first just for picture reasons

Then we added the liquid ingredients and the oldest wanted hers pink so we only added a few drops of red

Then stir all ingredients well before placing on stove

Once it is stirred well place on medium heat and stir. You have to stir the entire time mixture is on stove.
It will begin to thicken after a few minutes.
Once it has formed a big clump of playdoh scoop it out of the pot and knead.

After Kneading

We made three batches, one color for each girl. It does make a lot for one color in my opinion so when I made the playdoh for my 2 year old niece I cut the recipe in half and it came out just as nice.

Keep the playdoh stored in an air tight container like these plastic Tupperware bowls and your kids will have playdoh for weeks if not months.

Headband Organizer

So I LOVE headbands and have a ton of them but they get messed up because I have no where to keep them together where they can stay nice and neat. That all ended today!

All you need is the following:

  • An empty oatmeal container
  • fabric
  • Scissors (if you use fabric)
  • Glue gun
  • Glue sticks
Note: You can use paint instead of fabric but if you use paint, spray paint works best because it doesn't leave streaks and dries faster. If you do use spray paint if you use a bright color you will want to use a white spray paint as a base coat then apply other color.

Once you have measured the amount of fabric you need you take the glue gun and make a line of glue straight down a side of the oatmeal container. After that place the beginning of your fabric down the side of the container slowly pressing it into the hot glue. Make sure fabric is lined up with the top of the container.

After that wrap the fabric around the container ensuring you keep it aligned with the top of the container.

Next make a second line of glue on fabric on the container next to your starting point, slowly place fabric down on glue to make sure you don't glue on crooked or create creases.

After you have finished putting the fabric on you can cut off any excess material. (I left material on at bottom of container and glued it down later with hot glue)

After placing most of my headbands on

I think I will be making another one with spray paint because I really have to bunch all mine on it that and my niece now wants one too.

Homemade Finger Paint

So today I opened my crafts board and told my 7 year old niece to pick something to do, needless to say this was not the first thing she picked but we had to do something her 2 year old sister could enjoy too. After   going through over a 100 crafts we finally agreed on homemade finger paint.

So to make your own homemade paint you need the following:
  • 3 tbs of sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup corn starch
  • 2 cups of water
  • food coloring
  • pot
  • mixing spoon
  • measuring cups and measuring spoons
  • small bowls to put finger paint in

Mix all ingredients into pot and warm until mixture thickens

This is what it will look like when its done
note: make sure to mix it well mine had a few small lumps in it

Then scoop the mixture into your bowls and add your food coloring

Then let your kids dig their fingers in and paint masterpieces

Note: A little does go a long way with this stuff, and the texture is a little gooey.
When we were painting I didn't think this mixture would dry nicely, but it dried fine and the kids loved it.

Also I'm open to any suggestions if anyone has any to make this a new way.

Fried Hair Vs. Beautiful Waves

So before I had to chop all my hair off because I fried my hair from stripping and bleaching it repeatedly I tried to attempt a few hair styles I saw on Pinterest. This is actually the night I fully realized I had fried my hair.

Anyways... This is what I was attempting:

Or...

& this is what I ended up being able to do:

It's not exactly what I wanted but it ended up being very cute. I will attempt both of the hair styles again once my hair has grown back out.

If anyone has any ideas of how to make your hair grow back quickly please feel free to share, I'm up for trying anything!!

Homemade Sidewalk Paint

So over the early spring I discovered my new addiction, Pinterest. There was so much on the site and I just pinned and pinned away. Well after creating 19 boards I've finally decided to do some of my pins. Since it's summer time and I'm babysitting my nieces a lot during the week I decided one of the first things I wanted to do was homemade sidewalk paint. It was so easy to make, and the girls had a blast with it!!
(my nieces, Sami, Jenni, and Lilli)

All you need is the following:
  • 1 cup of corn starch
  • 1 cup of water
  • food coloring
  • a bowl
  • spoon
  • measuring cup
  • containers to put paint in (I have seen some people use muffin pan)

After you mix the one cup of corn starch and the one cup of water pour it into your containers

Next put your dye in, I just did the basic colors: Red, blue, yellow, and green.

Then mix/shake and you're ready to go, all you need now is a sunny day, a sidewalk and some happy kids with paint brushes!!

Here are some pictures of the creations the girls made

Like I said they had a lot of fun and they are already asking to do it again!!
